Accessibility of Ports and Ferries for Persons with Disabilities and Reduced Mobility – Greece

The Greek Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy has recently created a dedicated section on its official website entitled “Passenger Rights in Maritime Transport.” This section provides comprehensive information on the following topics:

• The rights of passengers in maritime transport, as enshrined in both national and European legislation.
• The accessibility of coastal passenger ships for persons with disabilities and persons with reduced mobility (e.g. elevators or stairlifts availability, designated wheelchair spaces, accessible toilets, etc.).
• The accessibility of port facilities for these groups of passengers, to ensure their safe and unhindered movement within port areas (e.g. tactile paving for the blinds, accessible sanitary facilities, designated reception points, etc.). This information is particularly important given that Greece has 124 inhabited islands. Reliable information on the accessibility of vessels and port infrastructure is essential for persons with disabilities and reduced mobility to plan their travel and exercise their right to barrier-free mobility.
• Ferry fares levels and pricing trends in maritime transport. 

It is also worth noting that the website is fully accessible to persons with disabilities and includes an accessibility statement, in compliance with the Directive 2016/2102 on the accessibility of the websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies.
