Accessible Trains in Latvia

As of December 15, 2023, VIVI has introduced new Škoda electric trains that are accessible to passengers with mobility difficulties. Thirty-two of these four-carriage trains were purchased with support from the EU's Cohesion Fund. Each train is 109 meters long, seats 436 passengers, and has parking spaces for 454.

The single-level boarding from platforms ensures accessibility and speeds up passenger exchanges. Double-leaf doors, 1.3 meters wide, further enhance boarding efficiency. The new trains offer climate control, ergonomic seats, and modern amenities, including video and audio information systems and powerful WiFi. With smoother rides and reduced noise, they travel at speeds up to 160 km/h, compared to the previous 120 km/h.

Visually, these trains stand out with their signal yellow, anthracite grey, and dark grey colors. Yellow is chosen for its visibility, especially for those with visual impairments, while anthracite grey provides a functional background that highlights the yellow elements and is easy to maintain. These new electric trains exemplify comfort, convenience, and efficient travel.
