With the construction of a new, inclusive and sustainable residential building in Berlin-Wilmersdorf, Aktion Mensch, as the developer, is creating barrier-free housing for the first time. This is a response to the growing demand for housing for people with and without disabilities.
The inclusive residential building is one of the first of its kind in the capital. In addition to five individual residential units, including those for families with children with disabilities, the concept also includes an inclusive shared apartment.
The shared apartment offers ten single rooms, each with its own bathroom and common areas. In addition to people with disabilities and senior citizens, the building also houses people without disabilities, such as students. They provide simple daily assistance to their roommates who need support. The students receive professional training and support from Stephanus gGmbH and benefit from affordable rent.
The idea behind it: In the new residential building, many different people live next door to each other and enrich and support each other in their everyday lives.
The building also houses a Stephanus gGmbH counselling and service centre. The team there supports not only the residents of the building itself, but also, upon request, interested neighbours in their daily lives and leisure activities. Outpatient care services and other assistance services are also coordinated from here. An additional advantage is the concierge service in the entrance area, which will be managed by a staff member with disabilities. Here, all tenants can drop off or pick up packages, for example, and have a contact person for practical everyday needs.
