The Code for Inclusive Digital Design (CIDO) provides practical guidelines, tips, and examples for an inclusive design process that actively involves persons with disabilities. CIDO teaches you how to engage the right persons with disabilities at the right moments, using the right methods and facilities, in the design of digital products and services. The goal is to make these products and services accessible, user-friendly, and understandable for as many people as possible, regardless of their disability, age, or other factors.

CIDO consists of 3 components:

  1. Inclusive design process: how can you involve people with disabilities at every stage of the design process?
  2. Preconditions for expertise: what are the necessary conditions for working with disabled experts?
  3. Organizational preconditions: how do you implement and embed inclusive design within your organization?

Useful: self-evaluation! For each component, a self-evaluation can be completed, giving you insight into your current position and identifying the next steps you can take.

CIDO has been piloted with the Rabobank.
