Description
First published in 2024, this 360º Accessibility Manual for Hospital Environments offers a complete set of technical criteria and practical recommendations to make hospital experiences fully inclusive for patients, visitors and staff with any disability.
Going beyond Spain’s Building Code (CTE DB SUA 9), Order TMA/851/2021 and UNE 170001-2, the 12 chapter guide covers outdoor routes, entrances, emergency areas, surgical blocks, wards, ICUs, multi-modal signage, e-health ICT, inclusive evacuation and maintenance.
Each chapter combines diagrams, editable checklists and real Spanish case studies (e.g., Valdecilla University Hospital, Barcelona Clínic, Toledo Hospital Complex). The manual stresses co-design with disability organisations in pre- and post-construction audits and proposes lifecycle KPIs on comfort, safety and patient satisfaction helping hospital engineering teams plan upgrades from a universal design perspective.
