Description

Editorial information: MDPI Open Access Journals. ISSN: 2071-1050.

The study investigates the willingness of physically disabled (PD) persons to drive (and pay for) an electric vehicle (EV) prototype, adapted to travelling in rural roads.

An Italian ‘snowball’ sample of 209 PD adult drivers has been drawn. The ‘willingness to drive (WTD) or not’ the specific good has been modeled by means of a probit regression. The WTD increases with existing car use and age (probably because physical disability increases with ageing), whereas it decreases with functional car issues (misadaptation and, in a more pronounced degree, unhandy refilling/recharging). The ‘willingness to pay (WTP)’ has been modeled through an ordered logit, discriminating 4 price levels (lowest <20.000€, highest >30.000€). The WTP increases with a higher income level, car safety and reliability.
