Description

This academic thesis analyses how new streetcar and tram stop designs in Austria succeed in delivering barrier-free access for passengers with disabilities and persons with reduced mobility. It assesses the practical implementation of normative and legal accessibility requirements specific to Austrian transport infrastructure and compares these with actual site conditions obtained through field surveys and interviews with transport providers.

The work identifies progress, challenges, and optimisation potentials in the application of accessibility standards in urban rail environments, offering actionable insights for planners, operators, and policymakers responsible for inclusive transport infrastructure development.

The findings demonstrate both strengths and remaining barriers in current Austrian practice, illustrating the gap between normative aspiration and on-the-ground performance while suggesting concrete improvements for future planning cycles.
