Description

The Strategy shows that Romania faces an accelerated ageing of the population - currently 19.2% over 65, estimate 27.7% in 2050, with 8.5% over 80. UN projections estimate that aged population will represent 50% of the active population in 2050.

The general objective of the Strategy is to increase the number of older people who succeed in living independent lives for as long as possible as they age and to improve access to appropriate LTC services for dependent older people, ensuring equality of access, resilience, and sustainability of the long-term care system.

Direction of action 6.2. Improving accessibility of social infrastructure and public space aim for increasing the number of communities actively involved in encouraging healthy ageing, amending legal provisions in order to improve the access of older persons to transport, social infrastructure and public spaces, and launching an annual program to award and promote innovative communities and elderly-friendly.
