Recent developments have highlighted the significant value of social inclusion for individuals with disabilities. It is becoming evident that disability does not necessarily result in social isolation; rather, it is an issue of accessibility within the environment, including in organisational settings. This paper examines the intersections between research on the social inclusion of people with disabilities and research on work and career inclusion.

Social inclusion of people with disabilities is a legal obligation. The article shows that people with disabilities still have more negative than positive experiences in real life, both in terms of social inclusion and in terms of work inclusion and career opportunities, despite national policy commitments under the UNCRPD. The barriers to career opportunities for people with disabilities consist of objective difficulties, psychological barriers and social challenges, the most significant of which is the ineffectiveness of social inclusion policies.
