This event aims to bring together key stakeholders across the sector. It will focus on a systems-based approach to ensuring that Universal Design is the basis for maximising all aspects of inclusion around education. The workshop has the following objectives:
- To bring together diverse voices across the education sector
- To discuss how Universal Design can be incorporated into the policies underpinning education
- To show how Universal Design can be used to ensure that the educational environment (digital and physical) can be inclusive
- To show how Universal Design can be included in curricula and assessment
- To hear the lived-experience of students, and to capture their views on the barriers which they currently face, and to show how Universal Design can be used to overcome them.
The workshop will include perspectives which aim to capture the knowledge and experience of various stakeholders. A panel of national and international experts will discuss the macro and mezzo-level implications of Universal Design in Education. This panel will be facilitated by Dr. Klaus Miesenberger, University of Linz, who will bring his decades of expertise to the discussion. Another session will outline the practicalities of ensuring that day-to-day delivery of educational programmes are universally designed. The third panel will feature input from students who will outline their experiences in respect of engaging with all aspects of educational life.
