The course covers the rights of people with disabilities using all modes of public transport, including trains (heavy and light), buses and coaches, and taxis, as well as sea and air travel.
Therefore it also aims to provide answers to the following questions: Why does mobility matter? What are the key roles public transport plays in society? Why is it important to consider accessibility?
Specifically, it will enable students to:
- Learn about the inclusive design principles applied to public transport systems.
- Learn about the laws, good practices and bad practices on accessible transport in Europe as well as the shortcomings and problems.
- Understand the key role that transport can play for many European citizens.
- Understand the vital importance of the pedestrian environment in enabling access and use of public transport.
- Learn what it takes to create stress free, accessible transport buildings (stations and airports for example).
- Understand the ways in which technology is having a positive or negative influence on the ability of people with disabilities to travel.
