The agreement was announced in the spring of 2024 by Minister for Inclusion and Volunteering, Julia Farrugia Portelli, and Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing, Malcolm Paul Agius Galea.

This agreement, covering a period of three years, will result in the Department of Active Ageing and Community Care offering services to persons with disabilities who make use of the services of Aġenzija Sapport, which services will include services by Commcare nurses and carers, physiotherapy, podiatry and occupational therapy services. This is also in addition to collaboration to provide persons with disability who are resident in care homes with joint service and support.

This agreement will also pave the way for further collaboration between professionals of both entities in order to ensure that persons with disabilities are referred to community services and have access and support from the respective departments. Furthermore, persons over 60 years of age who are still living in the community and who are referred to the Department of Active Ageing and Community Care, may be assisted in purchasing assistive equipment provided by Aġenzija Sapport, the National Agency in Malta which offers and provides professional services, assistance and guidance to persons with disability, their family members and their community.
