Initially launched to develop missing signs in Slovenian Sign Language, especially in the field of finance, the Contribute a Sign initiative (in Slovene: Prispevaj kretnjo) has grown into a model of inclusive innovation. With the support of Mastercard Slovenia and Povem agency, it focused on practical solutions with real societal impact. The project gained strong recognition from experts and the creative industry alike. The campaign sparked a national conversation on accessibility, communication, and equality. Among the highlights:
- Over 1,900 new signs developed.
- First financial sign language dictionary with almost 200 new signs.
- Training for interpreters and educational workshops for deaf communities.
- A simulation in front of Parliament on the new Day of Inclusion to highlight communication barriers.
The initiative didn’t wait for systemic change, it created it. Through strong partnerships with the Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing of Slovenia, as well as active community involvement, Contribute a Sign helped reshape the landscape of communication rights and access.
Its relevance was further confirmed through outstanding recognition: the campaign received one Grand Prix and four Gold Awards at the 34th Slovenian advertisting Festival, two Silver and one Bronze Award at the regional BalCannes Festival, and two Gold Awards at the specialized Diggit Festival – a clear testament to its creative strength and social impact not only within the deaf community, but also across wider society.
The success of Contribute a Sign proves that true change begins with listening – and responding – to the needs of all.
