Denmark to open doors to greater accessibility during its presidency of the Council

The Danish presidency will put accessibility and disability inclusion firmly on the political agenda.

Denmark’s program titled ‘A strong Europe in a changing world’ include specific priorities focused on persons with disabilities. 

Among other intiatives, it will push to update the EU’s Disability Rights Strategy to reinforce inclusion and equal opportunities across Member States and will try to get support to adopt the Equal Treatment Directive which aims to enhance protection against discrimination in areas of life outside employment.

Moreover, the Danish Presidency will work towards improving the future of ageing and long-term care, as well as ensuring quality, accessibility, and improved working conditions.

Denmark assumed the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1 July 2025,
and will hold this role until 31 December 2025.
