DIGITALEUROPE conducts survey on how Artificial Intelligence can support accessibility

The survey is part of a study commissioned by the European Commission on how Artificial Intelligence can improve the design of products, devices, services, or environments.

DIGITALEUROPE has been commissioned a study on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support accessibility, as part of the European Commission's flagship initiative AccessibleEU. This study aims to explore how AI can improve accessibility for persons with disabilities. Accessibility in this context refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments to be usable by persons with disabilities. Despite technological progress, barriers still exist, and AI has the potential to offer tailored support and make environments more inclusive, but it also comes with challenges and risks. Whithin this framework, DIGITALEUROPE is conducting a survey on the challenges, risks and opportunities associated with using AI to support accessibility

The study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of AI and accessibility and suggest areas for further research and policy initiatives. It reviews current research and policies to identify key trends, advancements, and gaps. The goal is to ensure AI promotes equality, participation, and empowerment of persons with disabilities and other potential groups at risk of digital exclusion, contributing to their independence and societal integration. This analysis is intended to guide researchers, policymakers, developers, and advocates toward a more inclusive future.
