The European Federation of Hard of Hearing People (EFHOH) is conducting a survey on the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD), as part of its ongoing project under the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV Programme), co-funded by the EU.

In 2018, the European Parliament and European Council adopted the revised AVMSD, based on the proposal presented by the Commission on 25 May 2016. Member States were required to transpose the updated directive into their national legislation by September 2020.

EFHOH was involved in the early negotiations with broadcasters and ENGOs, aiming to strengthen Article 7 of the AVMSD, which establishes an obligation to make audio-visual media services continuously and progressively accessible. This means that TV programmes and audio-visual content include subtitles for deaf and hard of hearing people, audiodescription, spoken subtitles and sign language interpretation.

EFHOH is now conducting this survey among members to assess the impact of the enhanced Article 7 on national broadcast regulations. In the survey you will find questions on the national process of AVMSD transposition, established broadcast quality of access services and general questions about trends and the delivery of broadcasts.

You can access the survey here. The deadline to complete it is November 24.
