Latvia publishes accessibility guidelines

The guidelines aim to establish a shared understanding of how accessibility norms should be applied in typical business scenarios, focusing on aspects that are not already covered by regulatory or explanatory documents.

The Latvian Information and Communication Technology Association (LIKTA) has released Version 2.0 of its Accessibility Guidelines to support members in preparing for the Accessibility of Good and Services law, which came into force on 28 June 2025. This legislation incorporates requirements from EU Directive 2019/882 on accessibility standards for products and services.

Version 2.0 places particular emphasis on electronic communications services, access to audiovisual electronic media services, and electronic commerce services.

LIKTA intends to expand the guidelines by drawing on members’ experiences and inviting companies from other ICT sub-sectors, such as developers of digital solutions, to contribute. The Association works closely with organisations representing persons with disabilities, ensuring their needs and experiences inform the guidelines and promoting joint initiatives to improve technology literacy among these user groups.

In preparing the guidelines, LIKTA has consulted and coordinated with supervisory authorities under the Accessibility of Good and Services law to ensure a unified understanding of compliance and monitoring requirements.

The Accessibility Guidelines provide actionable recommendations for implementing accessibility requirements within companies and outline key aspects for ensuring accessibility across services.

The guidelines are available on the LIKTA website.
