DUOday - a job shadowing initiative organised across Europe for more than 15 years, when companies and organisations open their doors to people with disabilities - invites them to try new professions and work roles.
During the "DUOday" week, thousands of duos ("duo" in Latin means "two"), consisting of a person with a disability and an employee of the company, spend time together - observing the company's work processes, performing some tasks as much as possible, participating in meetings, having lunch and socializing together with the team. Although for many employers DUOday is only the first step in getting to know people with disabilities, not a single person with disabilities stayed to work in the visited companies or was inspired to learn a new profession.
From Ireland to Lithuania, the most diverse organisations participated in the initiative every year - from presidencies to shopping centres, from an international bank to a small flower shop, as well as tens of thousands of people with disabilities. DUOday aims to show the positive contribution people with disabilities can make to the labour market.
Every year, more and more organisations that take care of the employment of people with disabilities join it. DUOday in Lithuania is organised by SOPA.
The 2024 initiative took place in Lithuania at the end of May. 18 Lithuanian cities participated in the initiative. Activities in those cities are coordinated by organisations of people with disabilities.
