The adapted learning styles questionnaires called “Explore the way you learn. Accessible reflective tool (not only) for deaf and hard of hearing learners” is an innovative tool in the field of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) learners. It aims to encourage learners to reflect on their learning processes and expand their foreign language learning strategies, fostering greater autonomy.
While many learning styles inventories and surveys exist, they are often unsuitable for DHH learners because certain items are irrelevant or fail to account for the communication realities of this group (e.g., with items such as "I move my hands when I speak"). Through this adaptation, DHH are given the same opportunity to explore their learning styles as hearing learners.
The tool is available free of charge on the project website in English and International Sign, Czech and Czech Sign Language, and Polish and Polish Sign Language. Teachers and other stakeholders can also access a suggested lesson plan to implement the tool effectively in classroom settings.
