Handy Signs is an innovative startup comprised of a team of professionals united by a common vision: to enhance communication and promote inclusion through advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based solutions. Their goal is to create a positive social impact by breaking down communication barriers and ensuring equal access to services and opportunities for everyone. Handy Signs is dedicated to bridging the gap between the deaf and hearing communities through technological innovation, empowering individuals to interact and communicate effortlessly in both personal and professional settings.

Through their AI-powered app, the company aims to make public services more accessible and facilitate everyday communication between deaf and hearing individuals. The app is designed to translate Italian Sign Language (LIS) into written and spoken Italian in real time, allowing for seamless interaction. Simultaneously, it transcribes spoken words from hearing individuals into subtitles displayed on the screen, ensuring a smooth, bidirectional communication flow. By leveraging AI, Handy Signs not only breaks down communication barriers but also fosters a more connected and inclusive society by enabling individuals to participate in conversations, access services and engage fully in all aspects of life without limitations. Handy Signs is committed to creating an environment where everyone, regardless of hearing ability, can communicate openly, engage with others, and feel included in every conversation.

Handy Signs is a B2B services offered to both companies and public administrations (public service sector) offering emergency or one-stop services. The start-up has recently established a partnership with Banca Etica, which allowed it to integrate this AI interpreter for Italian Sign Language in the services offered by one bank branch in Rome. This measure aims to be replicated at national level. Handy Signs also won the first edition of Inno4Gov, the competition dedicated to start-ups developing technologies that can contribute to the digital transformation of Public Administration. The prize, assigned by the Chamber of Commerce of Milan Monza Brianza Lodi, PoliHub, and the Politecnico di Milano, awarded Handy Signs for improving accessibility to public services for deaf citizens and their inclusion in society. The website also offers an interactive map for interested users in order to search local services (banks, post offices, pharmacies, health authorities) that use the Handy Signs service across Italy.
