For the first time in Germany, the Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn on the Elbe-Spree network of Verkehrsgesellschaft Mecklenburg-Vorpommern mbH (VMV), Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg GmbH (VBB) and Nahverkehrsservices Sachsen-Anhalt GmbH (NASA), are using double-decker trains that offer entrances and exits at two different heights in one barrier-free carriage - matching the platform heights of 55 cm and 76 cm.
The different floor heights of the two doors are clearly labelled Door A and Door B. The difference in height between these two entrance areas is levelled out along the length of the carriage by means of a ramp.
As part of the automatic station announcement, it is announced on arrival at each station which of the two door areas provides level access between the train and platform. People with mobility impairments are therefore no longer dependent on the assistance of the mobility service and can travel independently on the relevant lines without prior notification.
