LAGO Sint-Truiden Bloesembad was the first subtropical swimming paradise to be awarded the A+ accessibility label by Sport Vlaanderen and the Flemish Expertise Center for Accessibility, Inter. This recognition is the result of numerous technical adjustments made from the very start. The swimming complex welcomes approximately 300,000 visitors annually, including many people with disabilities.
The high number of visitors with disabilities is no coincidence. From the outset, LAGO has made every effort to ensure that the swimming pool and its surroundings are fully accessible to everyone. The entire visitor flow has been adapted to meet the needs of all disabilities. To begin with, parking spaces have been widened, and changing rooms have been modified to ensure that everyone can easily change. Once inside, ample space is provided, doors have been widened, and ramps and elevators are available to facilitate movement. Wheelchair users can exchange their wheelchair for a more practical swimming pool wheelchair. Thanks to a mobile pool lift, wheelchair users can safely be lowered into the water.
LAGO's inclusive approach goes beyond physical accessibility. People with disabilities enjoy a reduced entry fee, and the swimming pool offers daily low-stimulus hours, allowing visitors to explore the care facilities in a calm environment. For those in need of specialized care, there is a therapeutic care pool with an adjustable floor and warmer water. Additionally, the pool complex features a saltwater pool, designed not only for relaxation but also for therapeutic purposes.
LAGO Sint-Truiden Bloesembad serves as an inspiring example of how accessibility and inclusivity can be successfully integrated into leisure facilities, creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and supported.
