The event was organised by the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disability (CRPD) and held on the International Day for Persons with Disability and aimed to raise awareness on challenges relating to accessibility, not just physical but also those relating to information so that persons with disability can lead independent lives’.
Several teams took part in our mission to follow clues relating to accessibility in public spaces in the north of Malta. The participants were tasked with searching accessible and inaccessible pavements, traffic lights, public toilets and blue bays, along with other tasks such as writing ‘#sensoryplay’ in the sand, finding an autism-friendly space and buying an item from a store by using simple sign language.
They also crossed the road blindfolded with a guide and interviewed business owners on their approach and etiquette towards persons with intellectual disabilities. Together with all these activities, Mission Accessible had fun side missions such as singing and doing human-shaped letters.
