Within the project Multimodal Mobility for Persons with Different Disabilities, a series of regional co-creation events were implemented to improve inclusive mobility at local level and to strengthen understanding of how digital accessibility directly affects independent movement and access to services. The initiative brought together persons with disabilities, older persons, municipal representatives, accessibility experts and civil society organisations to identify real-life mobility barriers and to jointly explore practical solutions.
A key distinctive element of this good practice is the use of a user-friendly methodology for rapid digital accessibility checks of municipal websites and online information. The methodology enables non-specialists (including municipal staff) to quickly assess whether essential information on transport, public space, services and mobility options is accessible, and to recognise typical barriers. This makes digital accessibility tangible and actionable for local administrations and helps translate “awareness” into concrete improvement tasks.
The events combined moderated discussions with hands-on exercises using this methodology, thereby strengthening local capacity to address accessibility as a multimodal concept, linking physical infrastructure, transport services and accessible digital information. All events were organised according to accessibility principles and ensured direct participation of persons with disabilities, reflecting the principle “Nothing about persons with disabilities without persons with disabilities.”
Overall, the practice is a participatory and capacity-building model with high transferability: the methodology and event format can be replicated across municipalities and regions to support systematic improvements in accessible mobility planning and digital service provision.
