As the deadline for ensuring accessibility of all public building’s approaches (set for 11 December 2025), a Slovenian National Advice and Information Point has been established to provide awareness, assistance, and guidance on the required adaptations. This initiative aims to support public and private stakeholders in meeting legal obligations and creating universally accessible public spaces.
The National Advice and Information Point offers:
- Comprehensive information and materials on accessibility and universal design for public spaces.
- Guidance and consultation on all aspects of ensuring accessibility for persons with disabilities.
- Clarifications and explanations regarding legal requirements for accessibility in public buildings.
The centre was established in 2024 at the Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia under the auspices of the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities (MDDSZ).
To further facilitate compliance, a self-assessment form for public building accessibility will be developed this year. This tool will enable owners and managers to evaluate their building’s current accessibility and determine necessary modifications to meet the requirements of the Slovenian Equalisation of Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities Act (ZIMI).
Other actions planned as part of the National Advice and Information Point include education of architects and other stakeholders involved in accessibility, awareness-raising, and detailed professional accessibility assessments of buildings.
Free accessibility evaluations will be carried out for selected owners or managers of buildings that are service providers under the European Disability Card scheme. The goal is to improve accessibility conditions for all types of disabilities within these buildings.
The assessments will not only help property owners and managers understand the necessary modifications in line with the Slovenian Equalisation of Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities Act (ZIMI) but also contribute to greater public awareness and provide persons with disabilities with concise information on how to access the services offered.
Accessibility data will be publicly available through the European Disability Card website and mobile application, allowing users to check the accessibility status of buildings before visiting.
The National Advice and Information Point is funded by the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities (MDDSZ).
