The new low-floor tram KONČAR d.d. No TMK 2403 - Croatia

The company KONČAR – Electric Vehicles has manufactured vehicles for more than 50 years in the railway industry, focused on innovation, mobility and sustainability. Production of this company is known worldwide. Its products are low-floor trains and trams, special vehicles and electric locomotives.

The company has developed low-floor trains and low-floor trams that are specially adapted for people with disabilities and reduced mobility (PRM). These trains and trams offer numerous features that enable easier and safer access for people with disabilities, as well as for all other passengers.

Their trams, delivered in August 2025, are the first new examples in Zagreb in 15 years. A total of 20 will arrive by the end of the year, and another 20 during the following year. The plan is also to purchase 40 longer trams, which will significantly modernise Zagreb Electrical Tram’s (ZET's) fleet and improve the quality of public transport services in the capital.

Low-floor trams offer many advantages for people with mobility disabilities:

• Trams are low-floor, which means that they are in height aligned with the platforms, allowing easier entry and exit.
• Trams are equipped with entry ramps for people in wheelchairs.
• Spaces for wheelchairs, strollers and bicycles are provided inside the tram.
• Information systems provide visual and audio announcements which makes it easier for people with visual and hearing impairments to navigate.
• Handrails for people with disabilities are specially designed, adapted for easier grip, placed at the appropriate height.
• Special buttons on the doors announce the entry/exit of people with reduced mobility.
