In March 2023, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Social Affairs introduced a funding guideline for a pilot project on Personal Assistance, marking a major step toward unified support in both private and professional life. With a total budget of €100 million, the pilot will initially launch in Salzburg, Tirol, and Vorarlberg.
It sets nationwide standards for personal assistance, including definitions of eligible services, needs assessment, service delivery, and quality assurance. A key innovation is the inclusion of individuals with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities, broadening access beyond physical disabilities.
The model introduces a one-stop-shop principle for administration and enables continuity across life domains. The initiative aims to simplify access, ensure quality, and support self-determined living for thousands of persons with disabilities in Austria.
