- The Service Moyens Accessoires (SMA)
The Service Moyens Accessoires (SMA) in Luxembourg plays an essential role in improving accessibility for people with reduced mobility, by facilitating their home care through the provision of adapted technical aids and/or equipment through the following actions:
- Loan of technical aids : The SMA provides consultation, information and equipment loans, including technical aids such as wheelchairs, medical beds, shower chairs, and patient lifts. This equipment is made available on medical prescription, without the need for prior presentation to the National Health Insurance System (Caisse Nationale de Santé - CNS).
- Collaboration with the Long-Term Care Insurance (Assurance Dépendance): In the event of a prolonged need, the SMA works in coordination with the Evaluation and Control Administration of the Long-Term Care Insurance. On the advice of the Evaluation and Control Administration, technical aids may be provided free of charge, either by rental or purchase, depending on the specific needs of the beneficiary.
- Home delivery : For some technical aids, the SMA offers home delivery, thus facilitating access to the necessary equipment without additional travel for the beneficiaries.
- Impact on home care: By providing these services, the SMA actively contributes to the independence of people with reduced mobility, allowing them to live more independently and comfortably at home. This approach also supports families and caregivers by reducing the burden of day-to-day care.
