Barrier-free train stations are built and equipped in such a way that all travelers can use the rail system.
Every year, Deutsche Bahn (DB) makes around 100 train stations barrier-free, with around 150 platforms per year.
In 2022, DB will invest a total of around 1.4 billion euros across Germany to build new stations or to modernize them - always with a view to improving accessibility. Federal and state subsidies support barrier-free expansion. The EU regulation "TSI PRM" (1) is decisive among the current regulations for barrier-free construction, on the basis of which a national implementation plan for Germany was developed.
