Description

Editorial Information: The Academic Network of European Disability Experts (ANED)

The document is a report on situation and policies in respect to independent and supported living in Cyprus. Currently there are limited numbers and statistics available as the implementation of relevant plans has been only introduced in 2016 and only recently is more well organized.

There is a trend towards de-institutionalization and community living residences for assisted and/or independent living. Government’s commitment are stated in the National Disability Strategy and Action Plan, and actions are mainly funded by the European Structural and Social Funds. Accessibility is not specifically indicated other than the existing built environment legislation and thus the report recommends for specific attention to accessibility in all aspects.
