Description

Everyone should have the ability to navigate independently, regardless of age, ability, or circumstance, and preferably in a sustainable manner. Accessible public transportation plays a crucial role in achieving this goal. With buses already adapted, it is now imperative to ensure that stops and pathways are also accessible. The rollout of the new public transport network presents a valuable opportunity to address these needs.

The Flemish Government, in line with the Accessibility Master Plan, is actively pursuing accessibility improvements in two key ways. Firstly, it is enhancing the accessibility of stops along regional roads. Secondly, the government is providing financial support and guidance to municipalities and their partners, encouraging them to make similar improvements along municipal roads.

Municipalities have the opportunity to endorse the master plan by committing to a charter and developing an action plan through a coaching process with Inter. This collaborative approach helps municipalities understand the necessary steps to achieve accessibility objectives.

This website serves as a learning network, facilitating the exchange of knowledge among municipalities, Inter, De Lijn (bus company), users, the field, and the Flemish government concerning accessible stops.
