BUILD. Improving energy performance and accessibility in buildings

The project, which is being carried out by the European Disability Forum (EDF) seeks to ensure that EU Member States meet their accessibility obligations under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EU/2024/1275).

The project seeks to ensure that EU Member States meet their accessibility obligations under the Directive, by providing training and resources to organisations of persons with disabilities.

The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive which entered into force on 28 May 2024 sets out several obligations for EU Member States regarding buildings.

New buildings and those in renovations must address accessibility and make facilities inclusive for persons with disabilities.

Also, guidance and training provided for persons implementing the Directive must also be available for under-represented groups, such as persons with disabilities. Additionally, the training must include accessibility as part of the topics addressed.

EDF’s website provides more information about the Directive and project BUILD.
