Poland issues new guidelines to make it easier to obtain a disability certificate

These guidelines aim to reduce misunderstandings by the arbitral teams in charge of evaluating people with Down syndrome and rare diseases.

Poland’s Government Plenipotentiary for Persons with Disabilities Łukasz Krason has issued recommendations to Provincial and District Disability Assessment Boards, which will make it easier for persons with Down Syndrome and with genetic diseases to obtain disability certificates.

For many years persons belonging to these groups have been facing problems obtaining a certificate due to frequent misunderstandings from arbitral teams in charge of evaluating their cases.

There have been situations where evaluators have determined that conditions could be improved, ignoring the opinions and diagnosis of specialists in clinical genetics.
