Swedish Agency for Digital Government is considering imposing fines over failure to comply with digital accessibility requirements

These would be the first fines imposed in Sweden since Digital Public Service Accessibility Act went into effect on January 1, 2019.

DIGG is the agency responsible for monitoring that public websites and other digital services in Sweden meet the accessibility requirements imposed by law.

The agency carries out manual reviews of selected public webpages, apps or e-services. If accessibility deficiencies are found, the body responsible for the website is notified and asked to remedy the barriers observed.

If accessibility issues are not resolved within a reasonably period, DIGG can decide to take legal actions and apply for an injunction.
