NEMO Science Museum in Amsterdam has significantly increased accessibility. It is one of the first museums in the Netherlands to make changes to exhibitions and provide an indoor navigation solution for the blind called eZwayZ. The museum also changed parts of the building, lighting, and the website.

Additionally, NEMO's public staff have been trained to optimally assist visitors with visual impairments. The changes were made possible thanks to support of the Bartiméus Fund and the Accessibility Foundation, who shared their knowledge and expertise.

With almost 670 thousand visitors, 38% younger than 18, it is a museum with many young visitors. It has more than 17.000 objects. They have not all been made accessible (yet), but work is underway and many important changes have been made.

By applying technology and making adjustments in the museum, it has taken a significant step forward in being more inclusive. It will continue to make changes in the coming years.

The museum uses the eZwayZ app for navigation. Visitors with visual disabilities can nog navigate NEMO independently, safely, and effortlessly. The app guides visitors to their chosen location within the building with an accuracy of one meter.

Additionally, NEMO has equipped various interactive setups with higher color contrasts, adjusted the lighting throughout the museum, and made all exhibit and workshop texts in a more accessible font.

NEMO's website has also been modified to be more user-friendly for people with visual impairments.

Remarkably, all these adjustments contribute to a better visitor experience for all visitors. Together with the Rijksmuseum and eZwayZ, NEMO is developing a module in the app that provides image descriptions and instructional texts for all exhibitions.
