Inter, the Flemish Centre of Expertise on Accessibility, completed a project to strengthen digital accessibility across Flanders. The initiative aimed to ensure that digital services and communication are usable for everyone, including people with disabilities and older adults. Key achievements include:

  • A comprehensive digital accessibility section in the Toolbox for Accessible Cities and Municipalities, offering clear guidelines, practical templates, and inspiring examples—primarily aimed at local governments.
  • Broad awareness campaigns, including accessibility tips embedded in media campaigns, which helped professionals make their digital communication more inclusive.
  • Accessible training materials and webinars, reaching local administrations as well as other stakeholders involved in digital content and service delivery.
  • Tools to involve real users, including guidance on working with end users and people with disabilities in digital projects.
  • Promotion of inclusive design through templates for accessibility statements, model procurement clauses, and a strong emphasis on inclusion by design.

These efforts enabled municipalities and other professionals working on public-facing digital services to take concrete steps toward a more digitally inclusive society.
