AI-Powered Sign Language Interpreter – Zero Project Conference 2025 - Austria

Presented at the Zero Project Conference 2025, this good practice showcases an AI-powered sign language interpreter developed by InclusiveTech Solutions. The system uses real-time machine learning to translate spoken language into various sign languages, such as ASL and BSL, via digital avatars.

The solution has been integrated into video conferencing tools, educational platforms, and online services to improve communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.

Demonstrated to thousands of global stakeholders at ZeroCon25, this innovation reflects the growing importance of AI in bridging accessibility gaps. The project aligns with WCAG standards, has already benefited over 10,000 users, and sets a global precedent for AI-enabled inclusion in digital environments.

The solution was also presented in the Austrian Parliament. Speaking through her AI avatar, Erin Taylor used eye-tracking technology to navigate the screen. According to Taylor, the avatar technology enabled her to regain her voice, her independence and the ability to communicate independently. Artificial intelligence knows no language barriers. Her digital human avatar has given her back her independence as a lifeline to express herself and communicate independently.

This solution has been developed for everyone whose ability to express themselves is limited. In her speech, she used her avatar to point out that, in her view, these advantages should also be supplemented by an AI Charter of Fundamental Rights. It must be ensured that every person remains the owner of their digital identity. According to Taylor, technological developments have enormous potential. It is important to help shape and control this from the outset.
