Description

This article tries to present the current situation of accessibility of the architectural environment for people with disabilities in Bulgaria. According to the National Social Security Institute, the number of the people with permanent disabilities in Bulgaria is 689 187, of which 281 000 are of working age. This data shows the need to create an accessible environment for people with disabilities.

Results from two studies are analysed:

  1. Results from a comparative analysis of the existing regulation for environmental accessibility in Bulgaria and other countries.
  2. Results from a study of opinions of people with disabilities on the accessibility of the environment in Bulgaria.
