Description

The Estonian Blind Union, has taken a pivotal step towards fostering an inclusive environment by introducing specialized guidelines. While the Estonian Building Code sets the foundational accessibility standards for infrastructure, there exists a need for detailed guidelines of built environment accessibility of the visually impaired community. The purpose of the Estonian Blind Union's guidelines is to bridge this gap.

The guide delves deep into understanding the challenges of those with visual impairments, from total blindness to varying degrees of vision loss. It underscores the importance of tactile feedback, contrast in design, adequate lighting, and clear signage, to name a few. By emphasizing these features, the guide assists architects, urban planners, and policymakers in creating spaces that are not only compliant with general standards but are also tailored to creating innovative and inclusive spaces.
