Description
These Guidelines on how to produce documents in Easy Language are part of the Erasmus+ project E.A.S.E. The acronym stands for Easy, Accessible, Simple and Effective. The main aim of the project is to raise awareness of the need for accessible information and how important Easy Language documents are. To have access to information is a Human Right and crucial for inclusion in society.
The project is also producing learning modules on how to train others in the concept of Easy Language. The Guidelines are based on four surveys about accessible information carried out among service providers and persons with intellectual disabilities in Greece and Malta in June 2024.
The surveys show the following:
- Information is often very difficult to find.
- Simpler words are needed.
- Pictures and illustrations are helpful.
- Information that is easy to understand is important to make readers more confident
The focus for these Guidelines is how to produce accessible documents for persons with intellectual disabilities. The Guidelines are also useful when producing accessible information for any person with reading difficulties. Depending on the target group, the Easy Language information might be in different levels of easy. There is therefore not just one way to write a document in Easy Language.
