Description
The National Tourism Development Strategy for Romania 2025-2035 outlines priority directions for transforming tourism into an economic growth engine.
The Strategy has two primary objectives: creating jobs in local communities, including for vulnerable groups, and increasing tourism's share in the economy, which requires improving accessibility to tourist areas and modernizing infrastructure.
For the first time in a Romanian programmatic document, accessible tourism is defined as a principle that should be adopted in the development of programs or in the implementation of specific measures.
People with disabilities have specific accessibility needs for independent living and equal participation in any tourism activity. In this regard, specific facilities must also be accessible to people with special needs. There is a need to develop and promote accessible tourism that eliminates the barriers faced by these people.
Promoting accessible tourism contributes to the development of the market for services intended for people with disabilities, a market that is continuously growing.
The investments and actions provided for in the National Tourism Development Strategy for the period 2025-2035 will promote the inclusion of people with disabilities, elements of accessibility of the physical, informational, and communicational environment, as defined in Article 5, point 2 of Law 448/2006 on the protection and promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities, as amended and supplemented, in compliance with the legislative framework on the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities.
The provisions of Article 21, as well as those of Chapter IV - Accessibility of Law 448/2006, as amended and supplemented, and Specific Objective 2 - Increasing access for persons with disabilities to sports, recreation and tourism activities within General Objective 8 - Political and Public Participation, as provided for in the National Strategy on the rights of persons with disabilities, "A Fair Romania" 2022-2027, will be taken into account.
