Description
This study is the outcome of an on-line survey of older people in Europe. The survey represents the views of 349 people living in 28 European countries. Participants were asked to assess nine different types of emerging technology including journey planners, e-scooters and ride sharing schemes.
The most favoured technology – particularly among people with disabilities was an accessible journey planner. There was also considerable interest in ride sharing options.
Key recommendations include:
- Incorporating accessibility information into mainstream public transit planning tools and information resources.
- Investing in transit solutions that meet the needs of users across different groups, paying particular attention to the overlapping needs of older people, people with disabilities, and nondisabled users.
- Raising the digital competence and confidence of older people and those with disabilities to improve their access to transport tools.
