EBU calls for actions to promote the international mobility of blind and partially sighted people

The European Blind Union considers the international mobility of persons with visuals disabilities crucial for the fulfillment of their rights.

The European Blind Union (EBU) strongly believes that the international mobility of blind and partially sighted people is crucial for the fulfillment of their rights, and that the time has come for more people with visual disabilities to be able to benefit from international mobility programs in education, training and volunteering within and outside of the European Union.

This was the theme of the EBU 2023 Annual Conference held in Madrid, Spain, from November 6th to 8th, entitled ‘People on the Move: making educational and professional experiences abroad fully inclusive!’. Following the conference, the Madrid Declaration was adopted. This declaration highlights the main obstacles to international mobility of blind and partially sighted people, in particular young people, and calls for a number of actions to be taken.

Among other actions, EBU proposes a unique point of contact to share information on all EU mobility. The Madrid Declaration can be read on EBU’s website (pdf document).
