The mission of Slovenian universities is to continue being inclusive higher education environments where all students have access to equitable and excellent educational opportunities.
A nationwide online event on inclusive university learning environment as a generator of success stories was held remotely on Thursday, 7 December 2023, with the participation of members of the Slovenian Rectors' Conference and some external guests, including AccessibleEU. The online event included, for the first time, live captioning and interpretation in Slovenian sign language.
The universities discussed their experiences on the approaches and adjustments they use to engage with students with disabilities and presented useful information on education with adjustments, and students recounted their success stories of studying with adjustments and how universities supported them.
The new national rules on the procedures and method of exercising the rights of students with special needs and special status in higher education (in preparation) were one of the main topics at the event. Other topics included accessibility guidelines for professionals to use when evaluating services and accessibility measures, counselling and support programmes, and training and counselling sessions for staff members in higher education. The event concluded with a discussion on priority areas for improving the inclusion of students with disabilities.
