“We Rewind Poland” is a non-governmental coalition that aims to create a network of so-called comfort rooms, which are sanitary and nursing rooms where persons with disabilities are able to perform hygienic activities in a safe and dignified way: change diapers or other absorbent materials, as well as take medications.
Since the birth of the coalition in May 2021, approximately 50 comfort rooms have been established throughout the country. Mobile comfort rooms have also appeared during outdoor events, concerts, festivals, etc.
Furthermore, in October 2023, Minister of Development and Technology Waldemar Buda approved changes to the regulations on the technical conditions of buildings and their location, which include a requirement that new public buildings have rooms for changing the diapers of adults with special needs.
The obligation will apply to public administration buildings with a usable area exceeding 2,000 square metres; culture, sports, trade services or passenger services in rail, road or air transport with a usable area exceeding 10,000 sq m.; fuel stations with usable areas above 300 sq m. located next to a highway or expressway; and healthcare.
The regulations will enter into force in April 2024. More information.
