Within the framework of the Slovenian Targeted Research Programme, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana and the Geodetic Institute of Slovenia are carrying out the research project No.V2-2252 entitled "Analysis of conceptual designs of information and technical system support for persons with disabilities to increase social inclusion", which is funded by the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency and the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities.
The project aims to identify the main challenges and problems faced by persons with disabilities when using the services of public institutions and to propose technical and organisational solutions to overcome them, which could be financially supported by the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities in the future and in the long term.
In order to better understand the needs and to highlight the key problems in using and accessing the services of public institutions, the project team organised dedicated workshops with groups of blind and visually impaired, deaf and hard of hearing and physically disabled people, which took place in February 2024 at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Ljubljana. The participants of the workshops gave a broad and personal insight into the problems and shortcomings of existing provision of accessible services at public institutions for persons with disabilities.
The project team got excellent suggestions from all participants and their parent organisations, and insights into the good practices and lack of accessibility of public services. All the information and suggestions gathered during the workshops will help to prepare final proposals to increase the use and accessibility of public services for persons with disabilities.
