The "Municipality Tailored to the Needs of Persons with Disabilities" project, initiated by the Association of Disabled Workers of Slovenia, aims to encourage local communities to systematically improve quality of life, social inclusion, and accessibility for persons with disabilities. The project promotes a holistic approach to accessibility, covering areas such as education, employment, health, culture, transportation, and urban planning. Municipalities that successfully implement inclusive policies and remove barriers receive the "Municipality Tailored to Persons with Disabilities" certificate, recognizing their commitment to creating an inclusive and accessible environment.
Through active participation, municipalities must conduct an accessibility assessment, develop an action plan, and implement solutions such as removing physical barriers, improving social services, and enhancing community engagement. This initiative follows international frameworks, including the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and Agenda 22, and aligns with Slovenia’s strategic goals for disability inclusion. The project serves as an exemplary model of how local governance can take responsibility for accessibility and inclusion.
