The goal of the “Accessibility at Home” pilot programme, which is currently implemented by the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family Affairs through the Hellenic Agency for Local Development and Local Government (EETAA), is to improve the accessibility of homes and professional spaces for persons with mobility and sensory disabilities, thereby enhancing their capacity to live independently.
The establishment and implementation of the programme was initiated at the request of the National Confederation of Disabled People of Greece (NCDP), with the aim of preventing institutionalization.
Interventions may be carried out in a primary residence regardless of ownership status, in a privately owned secondary residence, in privately owned professional premises of self-employed individuals or freelancers, as well as in shared building spaces. Combining interventions in more than one location is permitted, depending on the beneficiary’s needs.
The programme provides direct grants with a 50% advance payment. For interventions addressing mobility disabilities, the grant amount may reach up to €12,000, while for interventions addressing sensory disabilities, it may reach up to €5,000. Where a combination of interventions is required, the grant may increase to a maximum of €14,500.
Eligible program expenses:
- Construction works (indicatively: bathroom renovation, door widening, reduction of sound reverberation), installation of lifts and ramps, automation systems, and specialized accessibility equipment (indicatively: audible and visual signage, alternative digital equipment),
- Engineer’s fee.
