Slovenia has taken significant steps to improve accessibility in the built environment through the initiative "Removing Barriers", launched by the Association of Paraplegics of Slovenia in cooperation with the Inspectorate of the Republic of Slovenia for the Environment and Spatial Planning. This initiative empowers citizens to report architectural barriers in public spaces and facilitates the enforcement of legal requirements regarding accessibility using a formular on the web page.

The initiative enables individuals to notify the building inspection authority via internet about obstacles that hinder independent movement, particularly for persons with disabilities. Using an online form, citizens can describe the accessibility barriers in buildings and public spaces, provide exact locations, and attach photographic evidence. Once submitted, the report is automatically forwarded to the relevant building inspection authority and the Association of Paraplegics of Slovenia, ensuring a systematic follow-up on reported cases.

The primary objectives of the initiative include:

  • Enhancing enforcement of accessibility regulations by streamlining the reporting and oversight process.
  • Raising awareness among the public and authorities about the importance of an accessible built environment.
  • Promoting inclusive urban planning by ensuring that public spaces and buildings comply with national and international accessibility standards.
  • Encouraging civic engagement by enabling citizens to actively contribute to a more inclusive society.

Let's remove obstacles.
