TOTUPOINT is an audio tag included in the navigation and information system. It is a small-sized device with independent alarm signalling: tone or voice. Markers warn about danger or guide you to a goal. They can be used to mark building entrances, rooms and other important places.
The introduction of such a solution makes public space more accessible to people with disabilities, especially people with visual impairments.
The system is based on the BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) wireless communication standard. This means that phones and tablets must have such a connection. The system can also be used with a special activator mounted on a white cane. The phone running the application searches for TOTUPOINT electronic tags in its surroundings. When a tag is detected, if specified in the application settings, automatic activation occurs. The tag will emit a tone sequence and a short voice message (Polish language) related to the found tag.
TOTUPOINT Is present in over 120 local government buildings, 59 cultural centres and 41 universities and educational institutions in Poland.
TOTUPOINT was created by Jan Szuster – a blind engineer and computer scientist. The markers not only help people with visual impairments to go to the buildings themselves, but also make it easier to move inside them.
